Neil Joseph Coig

Neil is a Louisiana native born in New Orleans and raised in Metairie and Mandeville, Louisiana. Upon graduating Mandeville High, he moved to Baton Rouge and attended Louisiana State University, earning a Baccalaureate of Science degree in Marketing and Chemistry while being an intern at Louisiana Sea Grant. Immediately following, he completed LSU Law School, ultimately obtaining his Juris Doctorate while clerking for one of his law professors, John Baker, and spending a semester abroad. Neil was subsequently licensed to practice law in the States of Louisiana and Texas, registered as a Patent Agent before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, and was licensed a Real Estate Agent before the Louisiana Real Estate Commission.

After developing his craft with an IP boutique firm, Neil moved back to New Orleans and founded his own practice which served clients from across Louisiana and the United States for over a decade. In that time, he started a family and scaled his client base in order to be more active in his young children’s early development. With those children now in primary school, Neil returned to Mandeville with the goal of maturing his practice in his childhood city.

The Milling, Benson Mandeville branch was an ideal fit for these goals, which is where Neil will primarily operate from, expanding the reach and breadth of both the firm and the intellectual property practice thereof. Neil handles all aspects of intellectual property, including patents, trademarks, copyright, trade secrets, trade dress, licensing, infringement (both defense and enforcement), contracts and more, and has served a broad range of client types and sizes, from individuals just starting out, to publicly traded companies.

Neil is currently a member of the Louisiana and Texas Bar Associations, and an emeritus member of the Baton Rouge, New Orleans, Federal and American Bar Associations, as well as the American Intellectual Property Law Association. He also is a member in good standing of all Louisiana state and federal courts and the 5th and 11th Circuit Courts of Appeal. He also is a past Chair of the Baton Rouge Bar Association’s Volunteer Committee, past Chair of the Louisiana Bar Association’s Technology Committee as well as past Chair for the Louisiana State Bar’s Intellectual Property Section. He has additionally served as faculty for multiple Technology-related Legal Continuing Education programs.

Neil was the Marshall of the White Chapter of the Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity at Louisiana State University Law Center, and continued for several years as an Alumni Advisor to current members at LSU, Loyola and surrounding schools, as well as serving as a board member for various civic organizations and institutions, and is looking forward to serving his community.
